The Canadian Twitterverse

Written by Kyle Braatz on March 1st, 2010

On Twitter, Canada is not just a country. I explain Twitter as a medium for thought leadership, networking, education, sharing, venting, conversation, but most of all Twitter is a community.

Since I started using Twitter, nothing has showcased this community in Canada more than the Olympics. Throughout the games Canada used Twitter to showcase:

Our Emotions

Agreed!! smile I’m watching the excitement and have tears streaming down my face… LOL RT @braatzy - Tonights gonna be a good night #GoCanada

Our Pride

Watching my countrymen run about with inflatable moose and giant maple leafs. Never been prouder. grin # gocanada

Concluding Thoughts

Seeing this passion and this pride for Canada motivated Netgen (in one day) to put together Our Pond.

This is a website that truly captures Canada’s Twitterverse and our excitement for the Olympic games.  It shows the power of Twitter as a conversation medium and as a community.

Twitter allows Canadians, from East to West, to celebrate together. We can celebrate with no geographical barriers, we can celebrate with other countries, we can celebrate Canada as a community, because that is what we are.

On Twitter, Canada is not just a country. We are a community….and a damn proud community at that!
